The Network for Social Justice and Human Rights (Rede Social) was created in 1999 with the objective of building coalitions among social movements in Brazil to defend the right to land, food, agroecology, biodiversity, social and environmental justice. Rede Social’s work includes the defense of collective rights of grassroots organizations through legal mechanisms, training, research, production of educational materials, communication, advocacy and building national and international solidarity networks. Since 2000, the annual publication of the book “Human Rights in Brazil” brings together about 250 organizations, social movements and universities that contribute with historical and current documentation, analyzes and proposals for the defense of social, civil, economic, cultural and environmental rights.
